Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Marzuki Alie said former treasurer of Democrat Party Nazaruddin, a graft suspect, has the right to remain silent or speak up.

"Nazaruddin, although he is a suspect, has rights. Whether he wants to speak up or remain silent, it`s his right, and we should respect it," Marzuki Alie said at the Parliament building here on Friday.

Although Nazaruddin was silent, Marzuki believed the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) could handle the matter concerning Nazaruddin.

"KPK has its own way to deal with the corruption case," Marzuki said.

After being grilled by the KPK at the KPK building here on Thursday, Nazaruddin told the press that he had forgotten all things relating to statements he had made overseas on alleged corruption in the construction of the Jakabaring athlete`s village in Palembang, South Sumatra.

He made a brief statement after the examination by the KPK that he also hoped President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would punish him but his wife and children should not be hurt because they had no relations with the PD.

Nazaruddin acknowledged that he had already forgotten all things relating to the statements he had made during his runaway as a fugitive abroad.

"Don`t disturb my wife and children. I have forgotten all things. I admit I have made mistakes. If need be, I am punished right away, no need to be investigated," he said.(*)
