Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Aburizal Bakrie fulfilled his promise to give Idul Fitri gift to the poor in Tanah Tinggi, Central Jakarta, on Friday.
"Thank God, Pak Ical (Aburizal Bakrie) could fulfill his promise he made recently during a dawn meal with the people here that he would give presents to 1,750 residents of Tanah Tinggi," Taufan Rotorasito, the son in law of the chief of Golkar Party, said in Tanah Tinggi here on Friday.
Taufan was flanked by the chairman of SOKSI`s national leadership council, Tantowi Yahya at the handing over of the gift.
Taufan representing the Aburizal Bakries handed over a total of Rp300 million in cash money to be distributed about the people of Tanah Tinggi.
"Pak Ical deliberately gives money because the needs of the families are different," he said.
Taufan said the gift was given to the people so that they would celebrate the post-fasting holiday with happiness. On the occasion Taufan also gave Aburizal`s and Golkar Party`s regard to the people.
At dawn on August 18 Ical and the general chairman of SOKSI national leadership, Ade Komaruddin, held a dawn meal together with the people of Tanah Tinggi.
"God willing, through this gathering we could share and feel the people`s aspirations. For that I would give my alms and tithes to the people so that they could celebrate Idul Fitri together with their families," Aburizal said.
On the occasion Aburizal also distributed parcels containing basic necessaries to 750 families.
Ical said when he was coordinating minister for people`s welfare he often visited slum areas and even after he no longer held state offices he still visited the poor.
"On the way here just now I said to Ade Komaruddin that he used to visit a place like this one. There are still a lot of places which are worse than this one. In view of that I would appeal to the government to build appropriate housing for them," he said.
He admitted that to build a housing facility in a densed area like Tanah Tinggi was not an easy job due to a limited land available.
"I would appeal to the government to pay attention to a housing facility for the people in Tanah Tinggi which has been known as the densely populated area so that they may have a better place to live," he said.
