Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu has called on her officials to activate routine supervision over goods in circulation in order to protect consumers.
"It is important for trade officials to carry out routine supervision over goods in circulations in order to prevent violations and protect consumers," the trade minister said conducting an impromptu inspection on markets here on Tuesday.
She said that the integrated supervision should be carried out at least once a month with the aim of following up people`s complaints. It is also expected to prevent illegal imported goods and net products which did not fulfill the required standards based on regulations.
The minister made the unscheduled inspections to three places in Parangloe village, Biringkanaya district, Makassar.
She made the inspections after launching a bazaar in the part area of Paotere.
During her inspections, the minister found 1,823 bars of concrete irons which did not meet the Indonesian National Standards (SNI).
She also discovered the production of wheat flour without the SNI label by PT Letifindo. She also found different snack products which did not meet the requirement by PT Suraya Mentari.
The products in the warehouses of the three places were sealed because they were considered to have violated the existing regulations.
